Don't forget your anniversary!
Buying
anniversary gifts to your spouse, for you own occasion, shows that you
remember and it is also an act of showing love and affection. It
doesn't always matter what you bring, the main thing is the act itself.
Nancy C. McEntire, Assistant Professor at the Indiana State University quotes Professor McDowell in her essay "Anniversaries—Who Needs Them?" and says that "Anniversaries are intensified remembering. Every anniversary recalls an event that has enduring meaning within the stream of our everyday lives. When we commemorate an anniversary ,we are staking a claim to something in the past and implicitly arguing that it has continuing relevance to the present and even to the future."
A table of traditional and modern anniversary gifts was compiled by librarians at the Chicago Public Library's. Whenever we celebrate our own anniversary we face the same question: what will I buy? When we were younger, a bouquet of flowers and a kiss on the lips could do, now that we have spent so many years together and aging together things look different. Kids already left and here we are for each other. We'd look for anniversary gift ideas every year but most probably for special occasions: our 20th or 25th anniversary or 50th anniversary. Vow Renewal is a very romantic option which you can either carry out in intimacy, just the two of you, or by celebrating with family and friends. A dinner at a table with candles on each side, just the two of you or a day in SPA together sound perfect for such an occasion. Even if you have a limited budget, don't ignore this special occasion. Frame an old picture of you that was taken in one of these unforgettable moments, write a dedication and hand it over with a smile on your face (and don't forget the kiss).
