Yachts are differentiated from other ships mainly by their leisure purpose. Yachting is known as an expensive hobby for people who are drowning in money.

The type of vessel you buy will enable you to make your dream come true. First you'll need to get your skipper license after attending a designated course, or you'd have to hire a skipper services but this is not a part of the fun, right?

Generally speaking we can distinguish between 2 types: power and sailing yachts. An ordinary inexpensive power boat would be nice for sailing along the coast and not too far from it unless you have a real big expensive one. A sailing boat will get you much cheaper across the oceans.
 

Then what size should we go for? If we leave our financial limits aside, a bigger boat means more convenience, more safeness and speed but on the other hand it is more complex to operate and more limited in accessing places, like passing under low bridges or other narrow gateways in certain marinas.

 

You should be a real freak in order to get into it and enjoy. It is not a cheap hobby as well as quite complex and requires a lot of investment in terms of time, preoccupation and money in order to really enjoy it.
