Lifestyle - the
way
we
choose to live
Lifestyle
is the way we choose
to live. It
includes patterns of social relations, consumption, entertainment, and
dressing code. It is typically
also reflects our attitudes, values or how we
look and how we see our surroundings.
Living
specific style means adopting or
absorbing specific
characteristics, a cluster of behaviors in different occasions and
different places. Therefore, it can be used to forge a sense of self
identity and to create cultural symbols for the way we choose. The way
we behave and customs is related to our lifestyle are the mixture of
habits,
routines, and reasoned actions.
We quite
often hear propositions like "this is for young people" or
"this is the way old people do" which we can agree or disagree with. We
also remember back in the sixties the beatniks and some of us even took
part in this way of life; later on we had the punks and on the other
side of the scale the WASPs and the Yuppies.
So what is the ideal
style? Is there such a determination? How can we compare different
lifestyles? What are the parameters we can use to rank the
styles and
who has the authority to judge and criticize?
It is
quite impossible to catalog life styles as it is a collection of
values which influences our day life, leisure, dressing style,
nutrition, habitation and anything else we do. Some sort of these
values are
based on specific methods like when searching for healthy style such as
vegetarianism
or naturalism while others are based on luxurious life, such as hedonism,
showoff as opposed to modest life.
There are also styles based on
religions but most of them are concerned with socioeconomic stratum
affiliation either the one we belong to or that we wish to be a part
of. Some people may choose a more permissive life style while others
settle for more puritan or modest style, but who are we to judge and
are there any objective criteria for this?
One of the
more important aspects of successful life is the development
and adaptation of your own life style in order to live well. Learning
how to
make money might be the mean to accomplish your targets but learn how
to live is the
much more significant as this means your life style. We can find people
our age turning their hobbies
to be a part of their lifestyle, such as
motorcyclists
or
golfers and others that may get
a RV and wander, or buy
their own yacht and explore the
world.
Therefore
our challenge in happy life is to succeed and find the way to enjoy
our life and realize our dreams which do not necessarily involve
money or fortune. Money is not necessarily the meaning of life; it may
be one of the means to achieve our goals and choose a certain lifestyle that we prefer.
Develop
your own life style: your endowment, your style of sharing and
your pleasure. It is not the quantity that determines it is more
a question of quality and the gain of experience of your choice to live
in certain style.
